Communities surrounding the former Exide Technologies, Inc. (Exide) Battery Recycling Facility are undergoing cleanup of lead-impacted soil. NEC Group, as one of the Department of Toxic Substances Control contractors(DTSC), is currently in the process of implementing the Removal and Offsite Disposal of lead contaminated soil on over 400 residential properties. Activities involve the excavation of soil until post-removal exposure concentrations for the property are less than a representative soil lead concentration of 80 ppm or up to a maximum depth of 18 inches.
